Introduction and History
This product may not be a just-released item, but even after more than a year has gone by, it still remains a good mat to consider for you optical and Laser mouse. This is the very first mouse mat from SteelSeries that is optimized for Laser sensors.
Background history
Although laser technology for mice has been around since the Logitech MX1000 series, it didn’t go mainstream anytime before the Razer and Logitech released their wired Copperhead and G-series of mice respectively. It was in this time-window that mat manufacturers sought to develop new mats to make the most out of the new sensing technology. Early versions from both companies did face some trouble with certain mouse mats. The new sensor that was supposed to work on any surface (wood, plastic, cloth etc), actually didn’t perform as expected even on some high-end mats. By the time mice companies were working on a firmware fix for these products, new mats were being announced to take advantage of the situation. Could this be a conspiracy for new mats to be released? We'll never know.
